THE SWEET FELOWSHIP OF THE HOLYSPIRIT

Some weeks ago, I had the need to go to Berger from the island. I didn’t even know where Berger was and decided to employ the services of a taxi company. The journey was long, full of uncertainties, stops here and there. I ended up being the one directing the driver, then we had to keep stopping to ask people; some people gave us the wrong direction and at the end of the journey I was frustrated, angry and had to part with so much money as my bill was reading regardless.

Often times in life we approach life same way, life is uncertain enough; filled with different unforeseen scenarios. However, Christ has left his spirit as our driver, our oxygen – the one who knows the way ahead of us and can bring us to our destination safely. However if we do not communicate and fellowship with him, we will end up frustrated at the end of our lives.

To fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we must have the following at the back of our minds

BE SINCERE AND OPEN- with the Holy Spirit, there is no need to pretend; you can communicate with God in your language. In the presence of God there is nothing hidden; you can say what is in your mind without being judged.

BE INTENTIONAL- we must yearn for him and not approach him by chance. It’s not about fellowshipping by stumbling at the gathering of other believers or when others always have to prompt us before we remember to have our time with him. We must deliberately make him a part of our day. Jeremiah 29:13

QUALITY VS QUANTITY- are we more interested in how long or how well we spend time with God? Time must be well spent, we must be convinced that we have communed with the father, and not mere repetition of words- Mathew 6:7

HEART OF OBEDIENCE- when we approach God in the place of communion with his sprit, we must have an open heart that is ready to do as we are told else we might run the risk of not hearing from God anymore because we have been disobedient with previous instructions.

WHY SHOULD WE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE SPIRIT

  • Life transformation – to please God we must trust on his spirit who knows him and can guide us into living the life of Christ, thereby making us one with him.
  • It is ours to enjoy – this is one “awoof” that doesn’t run belle, so why not? In today’s world where we pay to socialise, network yes by buying data, attending gigs, the fellowship with the spirit of God is absolutely free!!! Isn’t that amazing? John 16 vs 5 amp describes him as the helper, comforter, advocate, counsellor, standby, intercessor, strenghtener)
  • Secret things being shared – there are many things the holy spirit reveals to us just by fellowship with him (everything the father has is mine, that is what I meant when I said that he(the spirit) will take the things that are mine and reveal(declare, disclose, transmit) it to you – John 16 vs 15 amp
  • Helps us to pray the right way – There are many things we will love to pray about but as humans, we don’t always remember them at the point of prayer. Also, there’s the limitation of not knowing everything you should pray about but with the help of the Holy Spirit; we are able to pray the right way. Romans 8:26-27 explains it in details – “In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.”

Don’t go through life weary and battered when you can have a free ride with the Holy Spirit for comfort and ease.
