  • Greatness Has a Cost

“… Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”Matthew 19 16-22 (NIV)

I had made a decision to follow Christ a while back but before I did, there were some bad habits I indulged in that I really enjoyed. I knew that following Christ would mean having to forfeit those habits, so it made me start second-guessing my decision. For months, I struggled with giving up this so called ‘good’ life. After much back and forth with my conscience, I decided to trade all that to follow Christ squarely.

According to the passage, the rich young ruler just couldn’t let go of his earthly wealth even though the eternal wealth was right in front of him. He had attached too much importance to his possessions and didn’t realise that no matter how much he tried to protect it, he would still not go to heaven with any of it. Life is about trade-offs and the rich man wasn’t willing to take that risk. What are you holding on to that is making you reject God’s higher calling to a life of eternal greatness and legacy? It’s not late – align yourself with God’s agenda for your life today!

    Have a wonderful day!

Confession: I receive grace to see my relationship with God as a treasure, so I can trade everything else and pursue my treasure to the fullest.

  • Seize the Moment

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.  When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it! – Matthew 13:45-46 (NLT)

Procrastination is a major reason for most missed opportunities. If you’ve seen an opportunity or thought up a new idea, make an immediate decision about it. Opportunities don’t wait forever. Try not to postpone what you know you are supposed to do now till later, so you don’t miss the chance. Although, there are also some opportunities you might have to wait out just to be sure it’s God’s will for you.

Nevertheless, whatever has been placed in your hands to do, set out to work. Don’t run from hard work or tough decisions because someone else might have found that same opportunity and is already working on it. Be swift, take action!

    Have a restful weekend

Confession: I seize every opportunity and make every moment count. I shall not procrastinate with the things I have been assigned to do and do it well in Jesus name.

  • Hidden Treasures

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. – Matthew 13:44 (NLT)

Opportunities come in the form of hidden treasures. It’s easy to miss an opportunity especially when it comes in a least expected way which often lead to regrets. But when that happens, don’t grovel, it’s never too late to make the right decisions. The way to get past it is by being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and keep trusting God to open your eyes to the opportunity and avoid distractions.

Unearthing treasures would sometimes require you to let go of the old to welcome the new. Just like the scripture above, the man sold everything he owned to acquire the treasure he found. What old things in form of preconceived notions and mindsets do you need to trade off for the hidden treasures God is willing to reveal to you? Get a hold of them now with God’s grace.

    Have a wonderful day

Confession: Lord, thank you for the opportunities coming my way. The eyes of my understanding are enlightened to see them and grab them!

  • That Log of Wood

‘Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry’__. – Proverbs 25:4 (NKJV)

To many, a log of wood is just a log of wood. But to a furniture maker, a log of wood represents a world of possibilities; ranging from kitchen cabinets, household furniture and so on. Your ability to create treasure with whatever you have is tied to your willingness to see treasure where others see trash. A lot of things in life, come in their unrefined state – raw, not as finished products as many would think! They would need to undergo a refining process to fully function. God’s best is in the processing and not the finishing, so discernment is required to recognise the potentials hidden in the logs of wood around you.

This season, find potential in every God-given opportunity presented to you. Build those potentials but more importantly, build a progressive relationship with God. He is still in the business of imparting His grace to discern His will for you so go ahead, ask Him today.

    Have a wonderful day!

Confession: I have the grace to discern hidden treasures in my life as I walk with God daily.

  • There Shall Be No Lack

‘So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.” – I Kings 17:12 (NKJV)

The widow who Prophet Elijah asked for food in a time of severe famine had changed the situation of her life from that singular act of obedience. She had barely enough to feed herself and her son, but in spite of that, she obeyed Elijah and gave him some food. Of course, it didn’t make any sense to give the Prophet her last meal, but the widow believed the Prophet when he asked her not to be afraid.

The fear of lack due to the scarcity in the land has held a lot of people bound. But God is assuring you today that there shall be no scarcity in His kingdom. This is a word for you to run with- “abundance is very much available to you, if you believe and lay hold of it by faith”.

    Have a wonderful day!

Confession: I walk by faith and in obedience to God’s word today, therefore I declare that there shall be no scarcity in my Father’s kingdom or in my life in Jesus name.

  • Tale of the Boastful & the Humble

Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people…But the tax collector stood at a distance…and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner…. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18: 10–14 (NIV)

The story clearly shows that the first man was boasting about his religious accomplishments and spiritual achievements, believing that it qualified him to be a better person to be in God’s presence and receive His grace. This illusion of ‘moral superiority’ made him very judgmental about his neighbour, the tax collector and dimming him unworthy of God’s grace. Regularly attending church services or paying your tithe and so on, does not make you more qualified for God’s grace than someone who doesn’t do as much as you do. Though all those being commendable, it’s not your work that qualifies you neither is it based on your personal evaluation to receive it.

If our works were a prerequisite for God’s grace, everyone will be disqualified since the bible says that we all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. See grace as a gift from God, that has been freely given to you and I to make us worthy. If you disqualify others you think you are better than, it’s time to do away with that attitude today. Receive God’s mercy just like the tax collector did and be justified before God. Don’t be boastful, be humble!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Confession: I stop seeing myself as more qualified for God’s grace than others whose behaviour are at variance with mine.

  • Imperfectly Perfect

“Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarrelling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them” Romans 14:1

We encounter people daily from different backgrounds, experiences and even at different phases in their walk with God. What you should realise is that while you run your race, God expects that we value the relationships He has placed in your life.

All you need to do is accept people for who they are and understand them. Bearing in mind that you are also a work in progress. You are imperfect but God loves and accepts you just the way you are. Have a wonderful day!

Confessions: I have a heart that loves and sees the best in people always.

  • Grace – A Mystery

And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day. But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.” – Matthew 20: 11-16 (NKJV)

The parable of the vineyard is one that speaks about grace. The ways of God are not your ways and trying to understand it may create a lot of controversies in your mind. From the passage, you would see how the mystery of God’s grace can cause the first to become the last and vice versa. But it opens up to us about how the kingdom of God works and how God operates in the affairs of men.

When you understand grace form this perspective, it will help you to stop judging others or comparing yourself or your situation to theirs. It will also make you become more appreciative of all that God does for you. So, whatever camp you are in, whether in the late workers camp or the early workers camp, be thankful for God’s grace that gives you the riches of His blessings.

Confession: I understand kingdom principles and have an open mind to the principles of God’s kingdom.

  • Intimate or Transactional?

That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings… – Philippians 3:10 (NKJV)

Sometimes, people meet and form a relationship simply because they hope to get something from them. Others sometimes, meet people because they want to cultivate a solid bond of fellowship that leaves a positive impression in their lives. In the latter situation, the relationship goes beyond being transactional. What is your relationship with God like? Is it transactional? Or does it go deeper than that?

Here’s how to know, when you pray, are your requests only about riches, relationships, promotions and all you can get? Then it’s transactional. There’s more to your relationship with God than material things and He is absolutely in love with you, irrespective of who or where you are. YourHeavenly Father wants a richer level of fellowship with you. So, use the access you have to Him to get ahead in life. Be deliberate to be more intimate with God than transactional.

    Have a wonderful day!

Confession: Lord I vow to grow deeper and more committed to our relationship. I vow to fellowship with You all the days of my life.
