Abraham believed in God and it was accounted to him as righteousness. The story of Abraham sometimes reads like a fairy tale. I love the fact that he is the father of faith and so as my father, I benefit from his blessings. I took some time to think of what made him the father of faith.
It started in Genesis 8, when God called Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to a land God would show him. This was a call out of Abraham’s comfort zone to a promise he didn’t have the slightest clue what it looked like. I can almost imagine him waking up the next day and wondering, which direction should I go in this, ‘leaving my father’s house journey’. The bible says he left. Despite his uncertainties, he left. He trusted God’s integrity to lead him to a good place. No wonder God called him His friend! It is no wonder that Abraham is a prominent character in Hebrews 11, ‘The Faith Hall of Fame’. In Genesis 8 verse 6, ‘And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him’, we see God’s criteria of people who please Him. Faith.
Trusting in God means we believe in His integrity. So, when we sing Abraham blessings are mine, let’s remember to act like Abraham and learn to trust in God with all of our heart because He cares for us.
