“Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.” – Ephesians 5:17-18 (NKJV)
Have you ever had to read something from a familiar person and had to read it in their voice? You could play out how the person will sound even without seeing them. This is because you have built a relationship with them and you have stayed in constant communication with them as well. Recognizing the voice of the Holy Spirit comes from a consistent relationship with him.
Be intentional about building a relationship with Him and with time, you will start to distinguish His voice from the other influences. Another way to determine His voice is through the things He asks you to do. For instance, He may tell you to be kind, or to make peace, because He will never ask you to hurt others no matter what. The most beautiful part of His friendship is that the more you obey His voice and promptings, the more you will hear from Him. Listen for His voice today and always!
Have a wonderful day!
Confession: Holy Spirit, I want to hear you speak to me today. My desire is that you lead me in the direction of God’s will in everything I engage in. I listen for your voice… speak to me.
