‘HAS GOD REALLY BEEN GOOD TO ME’?
Perhaps, you are currently asking yourself this question due to circumstances around you. It’s easy to be grateful to God for good experiences in your lives. When faced with challenging circumstances, it is almost impossible to have an attitude of thanksgiving. The truth is, God doesn’t expect you to thank Him only for the good days. He expects you to confront every situation with thanksgiving while making your petitions known to him.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6).
As believers, our faith in God will be tested by circumstances one way or the other, so our disposition in tough times is very important. Tough times give us the opportunity to measure our strength – Proverbs 24:10 (NIV) ‘’If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength’’. In a quote, British author James Allen said: “Circumstances do not make a man, they reveal him’’.
Our enemy, whom the bible calls the accuser of the brethren is consistently looking for opportunities in the life of a believer to perpetrate his grand mission. The devil’s agenda is to infiltrate our thoughts in order for us to be depressed and anxious. Our willingness and consciousness to stay on guard is vital for our escape. The Holy Spirit who is the spirit of peace can guard your heart during times of trials. The Spirit reveals solutions during this challenging times if you can submit to its leading. But to get revelation from the Spirit you need to keep your joy and resist depression. Depressing thoughts don’t help us with solutions to our problem. We must resist the temptation to fall into hopelessness, taking time to count God’s wondrous act in our families and businesses. We must guard our hearts and make the joy of God our strength.
To guard our heart, we must be thankful. To be thankful, a wise man once said the best way to understand life is to start from the present to the past. Despite this approach, sometimes the past seems so far and blurry. You may not remember all from the past but you have to make it a point to count our blessings. We may not be where we want to be but we aren’t where we used to be.
If only our minds are able to capture the unlimited love of God and how He fights unseen battles for us. Even when we encounter challenging times, we should be sure that he causes everything to work together for our good (Romans 8:28). Thank God for fighting your unseen battles and if you can’t relate with that, thank Him for being alive to even read this post! Thank God for every little progress attained. The God of possibilities is always working out our future. Don’t give in to worry, depression and anxiety. Remember He is the same God that did it yesterday!
God is still in charge!
